The Empire State
7th August 2010
Why is it called "The Empire State"? Who knows. Even Wikipedia or Google couldn't give me a definite answer. But no matter what you call it, the State of New York was majestic, with the Adirondacks in the north, the numerous lakes and canals the state has to offer and Niagara Falls to the west, it was a stark contrast to the concrete jungle of New York.
Our journey takes us from Boston to Seneca Falls, NY where we set up camp for the night at the Cayuga Lake State Park. We spent about two nights at the camp site, taking day trips up north to Oswego, then south of the Cayuga Lake to Taughannock Falls before we continue our journey west and of course, not forgetting a stop at Niagra Falls before leaving the State of New York. That was the plan.

From, Boston, we pretty much sped through the freeway. I don't recall anything that stood out from our drive along I-90, although there were a few canal locks along the way (photo above), those were interesting to look at. We arrived at the camp ground (Cayuga Lake State Park) late in the morning, setup the tents and thereafter, head out to Seneca Falls for lunch.

I can't say I remember much from the town of Seneca Falls, but they were some amazing views of the old mills along the river bank.

By nightfall, we were back at our camp preparing for dinner.
All in all, a good first day ... until someone decided to burn a big piece of wood? Actually, I don't even remember if we did burn it or broke it into smaller pieces.
Next: Oswego and Taughannock Falls
Interesting fact: Seneca Falls was also where the first convention on women's right was held. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seneca_Falls_Convention
